Life at UBC: Clinical Research Across the Globe

Life at UBC: Clinical Research Across the Globe

Clinical research is central to drug development and safety. We want patients who participate in a study to always have a clear understanding of what kind of study they are participating in, the data that will be collected, who will receive the data, who the study sponsor is, and what benefits, if any, there may be to participating in the study.

While our clinical team, mainly Clinical Research Associates (CRAs), never meets study patients, they are always at the center of our work. Without patients willing to participate in this research, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to develop new treatment options and monitor the safety and effectiveness of current therapies.

I have a unique viewpoint into the clinical research process. As a European CRA Manager in UBC’s international services, I am the direct contact for CRAs working in the EU countries that I am responsible for and where studies are being conducted. Key factors in my role are to hire the best CRAs, support, train, and manage the team in order to have an enthusiastic and motivated team that is well educated in clinical research and ICH-GCP. No matter where studies are conducted or where patients are located, our CRAs work under these strict set of guidelines to ensure that patients’ rights, safety, well-being and confidentiality are protected and that good, quality study data is collected.

Working in an international and diverse environment is what I like most about my job. I was born in Suriname, a country on the northeast coast of South America. My ancestors are from India, and for the past 18 years, the Netherlands has been my home. So, as you can see, I have a multicultural background which fits in my multicultural working environment at UBC. I enjoy working with people from all over the world and knowing that a study we’re running in Austria can impact patient care in Australia.

After two and a half years at UBC, it is still a pleasure to work with my colleagues around the world and I am proud of having a great team in the EU. If you’re interested in joining our global team, we’re looking for talented individuals to join our Clinical Research team. Click here to see all of the open positions.
